We established our first Live at Home Scheme in 1988 with a small befriending service in Lichfield. Since then, thanks to the generosity of people like you, we now provide practical and social support to more than 10,500 older people across 57 schemes in England, Scotland and Wales.
Each scheme aims to tackle loneliness and isolation within the older generation by providing a variety of activities dependent on the local community’s needs, from exercise classes, day trips and short holidays through to lunch and breakfast clubs, assisted shopping and befriending services that promote independence and social inclusion.
Not only does Live at Home have a positive effect on an individual’s wellbeing but we believe that their impact in tackling loneliness in later life can be a significant factor in helping older people to live happily and healthily in their own home for as long as possible – and relieve pressures on more intensive services such as healthcare. In fact, research shows that for every £1 spent on preventing isolation, through schemes such as Live at Home, there’s the potential to save £3 in health costs and pressure on local services.
Your fundraising and charitable donations are vital to help us continue delivering vital, life-changing Live at Home schemes to over 10,000 older people living in isolation across the UK.
Whether you’re fundraising at home in your community; at work; or with family and friends by taking part in one of our challenging activities, you’ll be joining our army of Best For Ages supporters all fighting for one goal – to end loneliness for older people. And you can trust that we’ll be with you, cheering you on every step of the way!
