Our Live at Home schemes provide friendship and companionship for older people all-year round. For people like Bill, who regularly attends his local scheme in Burntwood, they provide a vital lifeline against the impact of loneliness and isolation.
Bill spoke to the Best For Ages team just before Christmas when his plans for the festive season were uncertain. Without family members nearby, frequent visits to his local Live at Home scheme were some of the highlights of December.
He said: "I have no plans for Christmas. My son and grandson may be coming but I’m not sure when, they live far away in Cornwall and London. I used to spend Christmas with my family but you get used to it.
"When my wife was alive, we used to go out a lot. Nowadays, I can’t see very well so I don’t like going out at night. My wife, Hazel-Mary, passed away some years ago, so I just live alone a day at a time now. I’m grateful that I’m still here for another Christmas."
With your support, we can reduce loneliness in later life for even more isolated older people like Bill.
