Take to the skies in a solo parachute jump to help beat loneliness and social isolation for older people!

For a once in a lifetime adrenaline rush that you'll never forget, challenge yourself to a solo parachute jump!

 

This event is split in two parts, on the first day you will undergo training on all aspects of the jump. On the following day you will take to the skies to perform your jump from 3,000 feet using a parachute canopy securely attached to a 'static line' which is designed to open your parachute for you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How do I get to the venue? Visit the Do It For Charity website to find your nearest Skydive air field. There are over 20 British Parachute Association approved centres across the UK so there is sure to be one near you

  • How old do I need to be? You must be aged between 16 and 49 inclusive

  • Is there a maximum weight? You must weigh under 15 stone, although some centres do have a lower weight limit

No experience is required as training is provided.

Event Day

Day 1: On the first day you will undergo a minimum of six hours training on all aspects of the jump - the equipment used, how to exit the aircraft, how to check your canopy, reserve drills and most importantly how to control your landing.

 

Day 2: On the following day you will perform the jump solo from up to 3,000 feet using a modern square parachute canopy.

£6 could help us deliver a week's Telebuddies service, providing a regular phone call to check on five isolated older people living alone.

£50 could train a volunteer befriender for an isolated older person, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation in their own home.

£180 could fund a Music Therapist for a day, working to reduce anxiety in four 1:1 sessions and one group session.

Gift Aid

If you're a UK tax payer you can Gift Aid your donations, making them worth 25% more to us, at no extra cost to you.

 

We can claim back the tax you have paid on your donation (25p for every £1 you donate) through Gift Aid.

 

This additional income really does make a big difference, so please don't forget to Gift Aid donations if you are a UK tax payer.

 

If you are a higher-rate tax payer you can also claim additional tax relief. For higher rate tax payers (paying tax at 40%) this works out as 25p for every £1 you donate and for the highest rate tax payers (paying tax at 50%) this works out as 37.5p for every £1 you donate.

Creating a fundraising page online can massively boost your sponsorship. Start by uploading a photo, sharing your reasons for fundraising and setting yourself a target.

 

A large opening donation can have an impact on the average amount the rest of your supporters donate - so ask a generous friend or family member to get things going!

 

Matched funding

Some companies have a match-funding scheme which could double the amount you raise. Speak to your employer to see if you could take advantage of this.
