Cycle through one of the most beautiful regions in the world to tackle loneliness and isolation

Cycle through one of the most beautful regions in the world on this jaw-dropping ride. Taking in the great lakes of Italy - including Lake Como and Lake Garda - you will ride over 400km tackling alpine foothills, valley paths and mythical climbs as featured on the Giro d'Italia.

 

This tough ride will push your limits, but you will take in gorgeous mountain views, have plenty of coffee stops and visit the cycling church of The Madonna di Ghisallo - after climbing it first!

Your Entry

Self-funder option:

Pay a registration fee of £195 when you book, then a balance of £1,003 (eight weeks before your challenge).

 

Raise as much as you can for MHA.

 

Minimum sponsorship option:

Registration fee of £195 when you book.

 

Raise a minimum of £2,050 for MHA.

Day 1, Tues 03 September 2019

Fly to Milan airport where you will transfer to the hotel in Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como. On arrival you will have a chance to explore and make last minute adjustments to your bike before the first dinner and a pre-ride briefing.

 

Day 2, Wed 04 Sep 2019

Bellagio loop via Madonna di Ghisallo - 69km/43 miles (climbing approximately 1459m)

 

This ride starts with a beautiful loop around Bellagio, riding the shores of Lake Como where you will stop for a coffee and lunch in Como city. From here you will take on the Madonna de Ghisallo climb and visit the cycling church and shrine.

 

Day 3, Thu 05 Sep 2019

Bellagio to Bergamo - 111km/69 miles (climbing approximately 1041m)

 

After a beautiful ferry ride across Lake Como you will cycle the alpine foothills and be rewarded with views of the mountains and spectacular vistas. You will then ride to the city of Bergamo where you spend the night.

 

Day 4, Fri 06 Sep 2019

Bergamo to Iseo - 79km/49 miles (climbing approximately 741m)

 

Your day starts with a river valley cycle path out of Bergamo where you will ride towards Clusone, stopping for coffee and lunch. From here you will cycle beside the shores of Lake Iseo before heading to staying at your lakeside hotel with spectacular views.

 

Day 5, Sat 07 Sep 2019

Iseo to Lake Garda - 148km/92 miles (climbing approximately 2440m)

 

The last day of cycling is also the longest where you will take in 4 lakes in one day. The distance and climbing is complimented by spectaular scenery where you will finish off this amazing ride at Lake Garda.

 

Day 6, Sun 08 Sep 2019

Return to UK

 

Today you and your weary legs will be transferred to Venice airport or the city centre where you can fly home or explore Italy more. (Flights not included)

By fundraising for Best For Ages, you are helping to connect older people in communities that care. Every penny of your donation will go further to reduce loneliness and isolation across the UK as well as funding award-winning music therapy in our dementia care homes. To learn more about our life-enhancing work, please visit the Your Impact page.

£6 could help us deliver a week's Telebuddies service, providing a regular phone call to check on five isolated older people living alone.

2

£50 could train a volunteer befriender for an isolated older person, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation in their own home.

3

£180 could fund a Music Therapist for a day, working to reduce anxiety in four 1:1 sessions and one group session.

Gift Aid

If you're a UK tax payer you can Gift Aid your donations, making them worth 25% more to us, at no extra cost to you.

 

We can claim back the tax you have paid on your donation (25p for every £1 you donate) through Gift Aid.

 

This additional income really does make a big difference, so please don't forget to Gift Aid donations if you are a UK tax payer.

 

If you are a higher-rate tax payer you can also claim additional tax relief. For higher rate tax payers (paying tax at 40%) this works out as 25p for every £1 you donate and for the highest rate tax payers (paying tax at 50%) this works out as 37.5p for every £1 you donate.

Fundraising online

Creating a fundraising page online can massively boost your sponsorship. Start by uploading a photo, sharing your reasons for fundraising and setting yourself a target.

 

A large opening donation can have an impact on the average amount the rest of your supporters donate - so ask a generous friend or family member to get things going!

 

Matched funding

Some companies have a match-funding scheme which could double the amount you raise. Speak to your employer to see if you could take advantage of this.
