Radisson Blu Stair Climb Challenge

Sunday 15 October, Radisson Blu Hotel, Bristol

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Bristol Radisson Blu Stair Climb Challenge!

Consisting of 18 flights and 300 steps, this fundraising extravaganza was certainly no mean feat! With lots of cheering, a great atmosphere and spectacular views, our Best For Ages supporters took on the epic tower climb at their own pace to rise above loneliness and isolation for older people living across the UK.

Some of our more speedy participants used all their strength, endurance and power to fly up the flights in a sprint to the summit and absolutely smashed our 2016 record! But who came out on top and won our first prize of a free meal for two at Collage Restaurant, Bristol?

Their results are as follows:

01:11 - Sebastian Spey
01:21 - Josh Smith
01:34 - Nishad Manerikar
01:55 - Mark Davies
02:01 - Susie Toon
02:10 - Pete Bailey
02:31 - Mark Rugman
03:13 - Carol Griffin
04:22 - Fiona Wisloff

Take a look at our event photo gallery and see if you can spot yourself amongst all the adrenaline-filled runners who took part! Please share the photos through your social media channels – and don't forget to use #BestForAges!

We hope that your fundraising effort was the Best For Ages and would like to express our sincere thanks to all participants for supporting our continued effort to reduce loneliness in later life. how your money helps

By fundraising for Best For Ages, you are helping to connect older people in communities that care. Every penny of your donation will go further to reduce loneliness and isolation across the UK as well as funding award-winning music therapy in our dementia care homes.

1

£6 could help us deliver a week's Telebuddies service, providing a regular phone call to check on five isolated older people living alone.

2

£50 could train a volunteer befriender for an isolated older person, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation in their own home.

3

£180 could fund a Music Therapist for a day, working to reduce anxiety in four 1:1 sessions and one group session.

Gift Aid

If you're a UK tax payer you can Gift Aid your donations, making them worth 25% more to us, at no extra cost to you.

We can claim back the tax you have paid on your donation (25p for every £1 you donate) through Gift Aid.

This additional income really does make a big difference, so please don't forget to Gift Aid donations if you are a UK tax payer.

If you are a higher-rate tax payer you can also claim additional tax relief. For higher rate tax payers (paying tax at 40%) this works out as 25p for every £1 you donate and for the highest rate tax payers (paying tax at 50%) this works out as 37.5p for every £1 you donate.

Matched Funding

Some companies have a match-funding scheme which could double the amount you raise. Speak to your employer to see if you could take advantage of this.

Fundraising Online

Creating a fundraising page online can massively boost your sponsorship. Start by uploading a photo, sharing your reasons for fundraising and setting yourself a target.
